Today at Escalera Foundation we commemorate Intern Today at Escalera Foundation we commemorate International Women’s Day. This is an important date where we imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Dominga is a young high school student and an artisan from Amatenango del Valle, Chiapas, who Escalera Foundation is supporting through REACH. Dominga’s dream is to become a doctor and help her community. She wants to be an example for many young indigenous women who are told that “we do not have the same capacity and rights as our male peers. But I want to demonstrate that I can achieve my goals and break the bias.”

Today, linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. Globally 40 per cent of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. Nevertheless, progress is being made in mother tongue-based multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life.
